John Goodman has been in front of a camera a lot: from his iconic role as Dan Conner in the 1990’s sitcom Roseanne to his film roles in classics like Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, and Argo. Unfortunately, for most of the time John didn’t like what he saw when he watched the films afterwards. Every year at Christmas he promised himself he would lose weight, and every year his goal would be derailed by food and alcohol. Finally, he had had enough. He went to see the fitness guru Mackie Shilstone in New Orleans, and began his epic journey to battle his alcoholism, conquer his weight and reclaim his life.

John changed his life by changing his lifestyle. He no longer drinks, and he has changed his diet completely. He eats healthy shakes made from fruit, whey powder and protein powder, and lots of fresh vegetables and lean protein. John is also lactose intolerant, so he has substituted regular milk and yogurt for soy options. Interestingly, he doesn’t count his calories: he just eats good, healthy food until he is satisfied. However, as a diabetic he avoids sugar.

John also always makes time for exercise: 40 minutes of cardio in the morning and 40 minutes of cardio in the afternoon. He has bad knees, so he uses a recumbent bike and an elliptical, showing that as long as there is a will there is a way.

John Goodman is now a whole new man: he is fit, he is healthy, and he looks decades younger. No longer the scruffy looking couch potato, he now possesses the physique and confidence of James Bond himself.
