April Is Move More Month: 5 Tips To Move More Everyday

National Move More Month is here! It is time to make a conscious effort to get your body moving each day. Many of us struggle finding the time and motivation to step foot in the gym and get into the routine of regular exercise and a healthy diet. Working a full time job, being a student, or being a parent can make you feel like you have no time in the day to prioritize your fitness and exercise. Even if you do not have time to hit the gym and do a workout for two hours a few times a week, there are other things you can do to help get your body moving. Finding more ways to move your body throughout the day will help you ward off diseases, feel better and more fit overall, and help you shed some pounds if that is your goal as well.

5 Ways To Get Your Body Moving Everyday

1. Take The Stairs
This may sound very cliche, but it is one of the best tips for a reason. Taking the stairs as often as you can will increase your heart rate which is great for your cardiovascular health. Your heart is a muscle, therefore by raising your heart rate your heart will become stronger. The stronger your heart is, you will be at less of a risk for developing heart disease or other heart conditions in the future. Skip the elevator, your body and heart will thank you.

2. Swap Your Desk Chair For An Exercise Ball
Sitting at a desk all day can cause back pain and poor posture. Try swapping out your chair with an exercise ball to improve your core strength, posture, and relieve your back of any pain. While sitting on the ball you can do some light mobility stretches for your neck, spine, and pelvis. Continuously tuck and untuck your pelvis to strengthen your core stabilizers as well.

3. Park Far Away
When we drive anywhere, many of us choose the parking stall closest to the entrance of where we are going so we do not have to walk as far. This is a lazy habit most of us are guilty of. Break the habit by consciously parking far away to get in extra walking steps each day. Doing this every time you drive will help your step count increase overtime.

4. Stretch While Watching TV
If you absolutely need to binge your new favorite show on Netflix, instead of laying in bed or sitting on the couch to watch, try stretching instead. If you want to do even more, you can stand and do some light exercises with weights such as bicep curls or arm raises. Just a few reps of these exercises will make a huge difference in your arm strength, posture, and well-being.

5. Set A Reminder To Take Breaks
If you work a job that consists of a lot of sitting, set reminders on your phone to get up periodically and move your body. Set an alarm on your phone every thirty minutes to remind yourself to get up and walk to the bathroom, grab a glass of water, or stand up and stretch for 3-4 minutes. This will help to improve your symptoms of back pain and will help prevent your body from becoming stiff from sitting all day.
